Options: Driving options and vehicle-tuning

Pimp up your car: define power (in means of horsepower), road performance and handling characteristics of your vehicle on the driving options. You can switch on and off the steering support here, in addition. The steering support always holds the vehicle on the same distance to the right road kerb.

At Tuning you make your vehicle a little stronger ( "Power" , "Maximum speed" ) and harder ( "Shock absorber" ) . If you liked another steering behaviour, you can adjust this for keyboard and steering wheel with the slider "Steer". This makes the steering wheel thicker.

The individual functions are:

Steering support:

The function steering support eases driving on a lane. The vehicle distance to the right road-kerb permanently is adjusted. It is switched on at the game start. As a result your vehicle can remain better in the track. The function has a little disadvantage: to drive over the right road-kerb edge you must therefore steer a little more strongly than usual against the road-kerb. If you drive too fast towards a kerb, it might be that the steer gets a small push as if you would bump against the road-kerb with the right front wheel.

Steer carefully to the right and observe how the vehicle is drawn to the track again. After little practise you will like this function. Nevertheless you can switch this option off here.

Anti lock braking system (ABS):

The braking distance of the vehicle is fixed on "devide the speed per hour by 10 an multiply that number by itself" in accordance with the driving school literature. With an ABS function switched on you brake as short as the road composition (grip) allows. Also with ABS your braking distance is greater due to the wet street. This can be seen in exercise 8 "journey in a rainy night".

Direction support:

A useful feature for beginners. If you drive over a junction, an arrow-icon will show the direction in which you should drive out. The arrowhead always points to the lane which the driving instructor has announced. Switching on your navigation-system this arrow-icon is located on the compass as a compass needle.
Sure, this option isn't available during the driving examination.

Rule support:

With this option the current traffic rule is displayed in the cockpit. The different text colours have the following meaning:

Red: You mustn't drive, so don't have any right of way.
Blue: The street is free and you may drive.

If you approach the stop line or the view line, the display will flash. You still can drive into the junction about 2 metres from there.

Furthermore the current speed-limit is displayed in the lower riht edge of your screen. The number 50 indicates a speed-limit of 50 km/h resp. 50 mph when driving in London. This option cannot be activated during the drving examination.

Trick:
If the rule support is turned off, then it is possible to make heavy driving errors without stopping the exercise. Failure points are nevertheless counted, though.

Show faults: If this option is activated, errors are displayed immediately.

Traffic: With this option turned off other vehicles are removed from the 3D-simulation. Then you can practise without traffic.

Flash traffic lights: When going over the stop line at traffic lights the current traffic lights will be displayed for a configurable time. A little camera indicates, whether one has been on the junction on yellow or red. Turn the selection off to deactivate this option. After installation this option is prepared for 2 seconds (2 s) display duration.
