Q: The steering wheel doesn't work.
To use a steering wheel at the 3D Driving-School
the steering wheel must installed and assigned using Windows system control
in area of "game options" (resp. "game controller" ) . After
that you have to assign controller handle "1" or "2" to
the steering wheel - not higher! Then you can select one of this numbers in
the
option tab-panel as well.
Example from Windows 2000: having a joy-stick and a steering wheel connected in parallel at the USB ports at your PC (the wheel get handle "1"; at the joy-stick, only its buttons are connected since the joystick gets the handle "2"). Open in Windows Start/settings/system control/gamecontroller: :

If your steering wheel isn't on controller position "1" or "2", you can change this afterwards. Push Change and number the controllers so that e.g. the steering wheel stands on "1". .
Steering wheel, gas and brake can independently be used like in the car. Some steering wheels allow two different driver software settings in Windows. In the following example of the "Thrustmaster® Wheel" these settings can be verified (example taken from Windows Xp). Call the following dialog at Start/Settings/System control/Gamecontroller/Properties - note that " Operate Pedals Separately " is switched OFF.
it will work: |
here " Extra gas " must be selected

Note:
Nevertheless if you mark the option
"Steering
Wheel" at 3D Driving-School,
you can still execute all keyboard functions. Here the gas pedal reacts differently,
however. A constant gas is used at a pure keyboard handling. A realistic gas
is carried out using the steering wheel: you permanently must press the gas
pedal at a "realistic gas" a bit. Your vehicle otherwise gets slower
and slower.
If you drive with the keyboard in this mode, it gets a little more difficult. The up cursor arrow key only permits full throttle. Then you permanently must accelerate. We don't recommend this mode therefore.
